ABOUT ME.

01

I'm a recent graduate of performing arts high school Denver School of the Arts in which I majored in theatre. Born in Los Angeles, California, my family and I moved to Colorado when I was just five years old. As I have no conscious memories of California then, Colorado is what I consider to be my hometown. I've lived in small pockets such as Pueblo, CO and Salida, CO with populations under 6,000, but the land I claim is Denver. I spent my summers as a child in Toulon, France with my Grandmother and Father as they taught me about my French culture while I gained fluency in the language. I currently reside in Los Angeles, California once again with my best friend Gigi, utilizing a gap year to learn about film history with a hands on approach, further my theatre education, read & write, and have unlimited access to the beach.

I have a distinct passion for film critique and analysis, literature and more specifically the exploration of how texts and genres move through time and space. I love telling stories and connecting with people through the written language. For as long as I can remember I have lived in my own fantastical little worlds. The idea of expanding my thoughts to any number of people by telling stories that have lived in the corners of my mind to gain a better understanding of how universal thoughts can be is the most intimate thing I can imagine. In all my work, whether it be writing, film, zines, photography, or any other medium I gain access to I always aim to center my stories on girlhood and queerness, as I truly believe these stories have yet to be represented in the way they deserve.

I live to inspire creative voices and nurture my own.

WRITING.

02

Below I've included some of my most beloved pieces, ones I like to classify as lyrical essays. Ones that come from my own stories, ones that I can only wish for and ones inspired by words passed on.

  1. The Anxiety Freedom Can Cause.

The problem with modern technology and human connection is that an opinion can be formed for you before you ever have a chance to encounter said thing for yourself. That’s why when I met you I dedicated myself to a life of solitude, a life of analysis, a life of fighting my natural ability to be swayed.

2. Hours were the Birds.

*inspired by the Adrianne Lenker album of the same name.

3. To My Mother.

“I feel like we are helping each other grow up,” I said. “I am grown,” my Mother responded as she shut her bathroom door on me. Reopening the door, I said, “It’s just strange to think that you’ve led this whole life and I don't seem to know about any of it.”

They’ve told me in comparison to an animal I am a fox. To be a fox is to be cerebral, this time, if I let nothing but my emotions control me, can I still be wanted? Desired?

7. René.

*Common app essay extended and partly fictionalized.

The next time I saw her she told me she had a dream that we were washing dishes together and we celebrated the birthday of her yellow bird, Pip, and I kissed her, childishly.

“Why don’t we ever go to your house?” She said.

I was surprised this was her response.

“It’s not much of a house. We wouldn’t be very happy there.” My grandma was losing all cognitive function.

10. The Storyboard of Story telling.

But at thirteen after I was admitted to the art school for theater I asked my mom for ice cream. “It’s for celebration and nothing else, we can throw it away after.” We walked to Safeway and she handed me The Tonight Dough and said, “If we are going to be fat, let’s at least be funny too.” We ate it in hopes that Jimmy Fallon's charm would rub off on us.

I take you to my old elementary school, to the last place I felt I had authority, the place I claimed my stomping grounds. I take you through the track where I would watch the boys I had supposed crushes on. You say you’re cold, so my past and present collision will have to be rescheduled.

She hands me her favorite novel and I say a quick,

I’m not in the mood for psychological ideology right now.

It’s theory.

Same difference.

You’ll like it. I swear.

Right from the start a relationship based on a disillusionment of interests.

I’m sorry, no.

But what did I have to say sorry for? I have met all kinds of reasons why, but I never promised to give my pain to art. Especially not here, to something so situational.

FILM ANALYSIS.

03

Finding interconnection between my love for film and writing has been such a rewarding exploration. There's the ways it's feels incredibly obvious, what's a film without it's writing? But when I started to strip that question down, I began to understand it's just half the medium, even less for some filmmakers. That's when I could begin understand the nuances in the work. Now when I write film reviews I make it a priority to take everything into consideration, from costumes to soundtracks, to create a conclusive and fair assessment. In addition to reviews, I do analysis of specific themes and examine three-five fitting movies. Below I've attached two reviews and one critical analysis on films and concepts I feel passionate about discussing.

SHORT FILMS.

04

Denver School of the Arts was a hub for some of the most creative minds I've met. The school offered twelve majors from orchestra to video cinematic arts, you name it. During my time there I was given the chance to act in short films made by my peers, make my own films for classes or otherwise, and submit to film festivals created by classmates.

Loose Teeth by PARKER is a song about "un-casual, casual hookups. People I have connected with but haven't connected back with me and vice versa. Botton lime everyone can agree it's sad to lose, but the nice thing about teeth is that they always grow back. Everyone is replaceable. People are like teeth, as they long as they grow with you they will always fall out, such is life." Artist PARKER writes.

THEATRE.

05

Theatre has provided a great sense of stability throughout my life. I may not have always been given the largest parts or the best costumes but I knew it would always be there for me. It provided me routine, community, and strength that I would never have found otherwise. While I'm currently unsure what my future with theatre looks like, I did want to highlight some shows and roles I am infinitely grateful to have played and been apart of through a reel and photo album.

For more performance photos:

This picture is from the theatre class of 2022s original play Pork! Pork! is a satirical two act comedy highlighting the historical desire for men to control women, the show asks the question, what if women were rewarded self sovereignty? All final proceeds went to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

This picture is from Paula Vogels Indecent. Indecent based on real events follows the story of the first to last theatre troupe as they perform The God of Vengeance by Sholem Asch, taking us through the first lesbian kiss on broadway, their trial for indecency, and what becomes of the show and actors when they return to Europe during World War II.

DIRECTING.

06

In my freshman year of highschool my love for theater was turned into a deep desire to direct. I was lucky enough to have been selected to assistant direct two mainstage musicals under the guidance of the director of the theatre department. Then in my senior year I had the immense pleasure to direct a one act play of my choosing. I had worked on the design, creating sets and costumes and doing research on the world of the show starting in August 2020 as I was quarantined, the final show was put on October 2021. I've never been prouder of the work I've done throughout my high school experience. I'm infinetly grateful to have had the opportunity.

I've included a digital copy of my production book containing the work I did throughout the entire process which educated all decisions made, images from the show, and a link to the show in totality, which has a run time just shy of thirty five minutes.

The play I chose to direct is entitled Crooked by Catherine Trieschmann. Crooked is a dramatic comedy that follows fourteen year-old Laney with a vivid imagination for writing short stories. The play begins with her arrival in Oxford, Mississippi with her mother, Elise after leaving Madison, Wisconsin due to Elise and her fathers divorce. Laney has dystonia, a condition that causes one of her shoulders to draw up and give a slight hunched-back quality. At school she meets Maribel Purdy, a believer in the power of Jesus and the ability to save Laney from high school drama, her father being in a psychiatric hospital, and issues with her mother. A strong friendship develops between Laney and Maribel, creating further friction between Laney and her mother. A combination of religion, teenage rebellion, mental illness, and a sexual awakening, all go into creating complicated, real characters and relationships that question just how far faith and perception can take people.

ZINES.

07

I believe zines to be one of most interesting art forms there are. Specifically because of their feminist history-- In the 1990's the punk scene was at an all time high, however, like most things, it felt like a real boys club. As the feminist movement for inclusion got louder and more colorful zines provided a place for all the ideas to be put down and spread, layed out and designed. From this, the riot grrrl movement began. The idea of political graphics became an increasingly popular method to spread news in a way that couldn't be avoidable any longer.

Zines allow me to discuss a wide range of topics I'm passionate about, combining my love of graphic design, writing, and political/humanities interests. Below I've included three spreads of my choosing.

PHOTOGRAPHY.

08

The type of art that I've always felt the most drawn to captures a certain beauty of mundanity, romanticizes the everyday, and demystifies growing up.

As I was preparing to leave my hometown and packing up my childhood bedroom to take with me to Los Angeles I made it my mission to capture specific parts of Denver I loved, parts I prematurely missed. I knew when I got to LA I would be hit with a deep sense of gratitude for Colorado and a regret for not actively thanking the city more often.

Below are photos taken on 35mm film of my friends, family and home as I begin to leave it for the first time.
